yeah, color case hardening uses charcoal, bone, etc.

Arisakas run the gamut of quality . . . type 38's are better than type 99's, and later type 99's are scary in how crudely they were made. makes an interesting study in what scarcity of resources results in

still - the scariest WW2 weapon I've ever seen in the last ditch kar98k my grandfather brought back from europe. I didn't realize a mauser action could be that de-contented, and the made from sawdust stock was hideous

but now I am really stepping on this thread - sorry!

What about a weathered look that's blue/blackish with brass creeping through?

Weathered like it has a ton of holster wear? The look of a gun that belongs to "beware the man who only owns 1 gun"?

Just black it, then play the hell outa it so that it really does have holster wear. Of course that means there needs to be a bada** holster to go with it.

Well I went and done powdercoated it a textured black - all of it..
While it looked really good dressed in natural brass I think the black
really capitured the look of the "ole mare's leg"..

I do have two choices for the trigger guard, one is a single
trigger guard I reshaped and powdercoated and the other
is a carbine looking handle I made from a piece of 3/8
steel rod and then blackened with super blue.

Let me know what you think of overall look and if the single
trigger guard is your choice or the carbine trigger guard.

I like both but the carbine one better myself, just gives it a "real" look.

Oh wow. You're spot-on with the finish choice, Wally.

The carbine one looks more authentic but the single one looks more badass. Split pot?

I have to vote for the single also. I like that stock, and the single gives it space and is more simple than the lever.

omg, that is beautiful. Well done. I'd say the faux lever looks more accurate but the other trigger is just as good looking. Hard to choose. Still stunned

Well done! Love the blackened brass thing going on - I'm going to have to try that finish out once I get my PG project up and running and done...
