Fixing the worst gun ever made

I finally have my Equalizer working! First it leaked out of the grip frame, then the damn thing wouldnt get under 430fps, then 340fps. Finally with a RG-1 (which I also miraculously fixed) it is right at 290 consistently and shooting like a champ.

What was the trick to this feat of mechanical aptitude you might ask? Oil. Lots and lots and lots of oil. First, I liberally applied oil to the gun's delrin power tube stopper deal to make it fire more than 3 times. Then, I pushed oil through the on/off until it squirted out the other side. This fixed it's firing problems but the velocity was an issue. The fix to that? Fill the ASA halfway with oil and run it through. The velocity dropped 50fps. It isnt much but it's a start. I finally gave up and tossed my leaky RG-1 on there for kicks. As an afterthought, I dumped a bunch of oil in the RG. Viola! Not a leak to be found and the gun is under 300!

Now time to take her out for some field time.

Please re-chrono often while playing. That sounds kinda iffy. Good luck though.

I use a Palmer Sideline (run off the side of a Stock) to regulate the input on my equalizer, and have had no problems. However, mine never really had any leaks excpet for when I tried to gut the internal reg.... that was a big flop.

How is yours on shoot down?

I still have one of thsoe that someone never paid for... might try that out. Anyone hae a source for that seal between the grip and body?

Definitely. Both regs suck, so I've chrono'd it around 250 so spikes only make it to 280.

Shoot down isnt too bad. With the RG-1 doing the work with the internal reg wide-open I can do 3bps before shootdown. But that's mostly because the trigger doesnt allow much more than 3. My next move on this gun is to stab it. Probably with a new grip frame to mount it on bottomline style.

I had one of these and I did basically the same thing you did, worked fine.Actually was kind of a cool little gun,The only reason I got rid of it is because my hand would get sore just trying to pull that horrendous trigger.

I got the chance to field test it today. The trigger was okay, and the accuracy was kind of there, but the velocity was problematic. For some reason, instead of creeping up, the velocity would creep down. Overall it worked pretty well. Good little backup/loaner gun.

Worst gun ever made, thats pretty debatable, I mean, comon. Look at guns like the Eagle .68 and all the 32 degree rebels! btw, anyway you could find diagrams on these? I've always wanted to compare it to a mag, the equalizer is basically a poorly made blow forward right?

Okay it's not all that bad. Just the regulator is evil.

It is NOT by any means a poorly made blow foreward. After taking my Equalizer apart, I found some of the best machining inside that I have ever seen. The tolerances are as good if not better than my old Vector. That's the reason that the trigger is so hard to pull. The on/off stem fit is as tight as a Vector 4-way except with o-rings. That creates a VERY hard to pull trigger.

From what I've seen from playing with this gun, it is an extremely good concept except poorly executed with off the shelf parts. If it had a good reg, a grip frame that accepted bottomlines, and a looser on/off, The Equalizer would have been very close competition with Automags.

The flat seal is extremely easy to make. Just take a 1/16" thick piece of rubber and cut it to the right shape and punch two holes in it.
