Ball Detent Options for KP Rifles

I have a KP-3 and have realized that the bore of this barrel is MUCH larger than any paint my local fields sell. This is going to be a big issue. If I can't use this gun....why have it?

Anyways I was thinking of some options and after a few minutes I came up with the following ideas. I am curious to know what others have done successfully so that I can shamelessly copy them.

Ideas:

1) Cut a short brass or copper half ring that will "snap" over top of the current KP barrel and have a wire style detent soldered on it. I will have to cut the slot for the wire in the body. I chose a half ring that snaps on because I dont know if there is enough "meat" for tapping a screw like on cocker wire detents.

2) Somehow cut holes for EGO style ball detents. I have an EGO so it would not be a bad thing to use the same style detent in multiple guns.

3) I heard someone say nail polish? But when I looked at how far forward the bolt sits and where the ball would be it seems like it would be pretty difficult to get a dab of nail polish that far down reliably. Plus the idea of having to re-do this is not appealing.

Here is a link to the Hurc. I don't have a close up pic of this one by you get the idea.

If you don't want to mess with the nail polish I'd suggest something like like PPS does 'widgets'.works the same but it's permanent.
or have a new barrel installed.

3 dents 120 degrees apart,
you need to have a barrel insert,if you do it yourself, so you dont collapse the barrel when you do it.. here's what they look like if you dont know.

Where are you getting 30 a pop from?

I thought you wanted to "copy" someones solution to reduce roll outs.

True, I don't have the means to punch the widgets however. I can however drill holes.

There is a master machinist where I work. Maybe I can get him to help me out.

Had Bret G put a new barrel on mine. It is now .680 (.679) but its a thin wall. I have not done anything to it and I am not the most careful guy out there.
I can shoot anything out there with no roll outs now.

If your doin a normal Sheridan body you will only need 2. If Plamers charges $30 a pop for them i should start doing then myself and undercut that price because it is way too high.

Cant recall. Im sure others here will be able to mill the tube for ya. Tim M has the .679 barrel tube available. He may be able to even do some of the work.
