PGP Non-Cartridge Vavle Disassembly

Since the old one lost it's pics I'm making a tutorial for non-cartridge PGP valve disassembly.

You can follow these instructions up til it's time to remove the valve.

First you will need this tool.

Now your going to start by slotting the square end of the tool in here.

It should look like this (I was just too lazy to put my valve parts back in :P )

Turning counter clockwise you should end up with a valve retaining nut on the end of your tool.

Now your going to thread the other end of the tool onto this bit of the valve.

Make sure not to yank to hard, I lost my valve spring the first time.

Now you should end up with a valve on the end of your tool.

There should be an oring in there that you might have to pull out with a dental pick.

Now to remove the chamber plug assembly you need a 5/8" dowel, some masking tape and an empty 12gram.

Your going to want to tape up the end of the dowel so it fits snuggly into the chamber where you load your 12 grams.

The hole thing should go in like so.

You should mark with a pen/pencil where it sits.

Now your going to want to get a good clean hit on the end of that dowel not too hard tho were not driving in nails here.

The second that line disappears stop! it should just fall out the other end.

The hole valve assembly should look like this.
(well... minus the o-ring that goes between the valve & chamber plug assembly)

Empty body.

I will probably refine the instructions possibly to include complete disassembly of the pgp and add better pics, but for now this will suffice.

Hey, what is the name of the unit that the 12 gram normally presses up against, that makes a seal between the 12g and the valve?

Just got a really old pgp. It belonged to a store that used to rent them. Needless to say, they were in really bad shape. I need to remove the valve, but I don't have the proper tool, nor does the store.
Any way to remove the valve without the specific tool?
Thanks

I would have to say no, your best bet would be to buy one from PPS

PPS Valve Tool

Defently worth the 20$

IŽd figured that much, but i was trying to avoid importing from the US to Europe.

Or I can sum all the stuff i want from PPS and wait for some friend to go to the US...

Hi!

Got the palmers key, a new spring and a new dyna valve.
So, i managed to put my pgp in prime shape, but i'm also servicing a friends pgp as well. With mine, it was rather simple to remove the square cap, but with his, its a freaking nightmare! I just cant remove the cap! Tried pooring wd40, to see if it helped, but nothing. Did any of you guys have a similar problem?? Any advices?

Thanks!

yep, i've had some that were extremely tough to unscrew. (Eli, remember yours?)

you just have to muscle it. just make sure your tool is fully seated in the nut and keep the tool centered. a good vice will help to hold the body but becareful to not clamp it too tight and crush the tube. wrap the body in a thick rag.

The valve nut goes on that way?

with the rounded porition facing forward...(toward the 12 gram)

and this goes for palmers too?

Also...what would happen if it was placed with the rounded part facing the other way?
