3357 Mods

I've searched the forums and havn't really discovered a good thread with mods in it for the 3357. If anyone with the gun would like to share some of their wisdom on it I would be much abliged. I've had mine for 10 years and only recently discovered it in the basement and began messing around with it.

I've got nothing...aside from honing/polishing/resleeving the barrel with something other than steel, or maybe figuring out a way to rig up a velocity adjuster (which I'm not even sure is possible without totally messing up the valve), there's not a whole lot I can think of that would work for these in terms of performance improvement.

Does your 3357 work (as in reliably cycles without misaligning the cylinder, and shoots <300fps)? If so, I'd just leave it alone.

mine chops maybe 1 out of every 15 balls which I'm pretty happy with. I am not very happy with my range and accuracy. Some balls look like they roll out of the barrel and others have some range but swerve. My best range for shooting seems to be about 10 yards and I'm using pretty good paint.

Unfortunately there's no such thing as good .50 cal paint that I've found. Range and accuracy are always going to be comparatively subpar with a 3357; because the paint is lighter than .68, it will not travel as far at the same velocity, and will be more susceptible to winds. Back in the day, some fields would allow smaller caliber paint to be chrono'ed over 300fps to compensate, because they realized safety was a function of energy transmission (related to both mass AND velocity), and not just muzzle speed.

As far as roll-outs, check your rubber detent ring around the center of your cylinder (if you have one, I guess very old cylinders did not). Is it still spongy? That's what holds the balls firmly in the cylinder.

You can try polishing or honing the inside of your barrel. The stock bores were not very good and seem to rust a bit pretty easily. You can get a 1/2" flexhone or use a .50 caliber handgun cleaning swab with polishing compound to clean it up a bit.
