I've found that the FSR shells are very brittle. Unlike caps, they actually get crushed up. I'd say they are about as polluting as sand.

Not to put too fine of a point on it, but that's actually worse. Tiny little bits are much harder to clean up than bigger bits...if people ever cared enough to do it.

I don't care if its just a little bit of plastic, people shoot in volume.
I won't use them if they don't degrade.

I agree, if they don't degrade they are completely unacceptable for use.

I would still use them just because I've seen what nature shrugs off in it's everyday existence.

I'll start an organic paint factory. We'll use only the finest grain fed polyethylene glycol, and your balls will come in paper bags.

Last time I checked, photodegredation and its effect on plastic-type materials only results in smaller and smaller pieces of the original plastic, and not a "composting" type of result, which appears to be evident in this test.

But hey, no one ever accused me of being Johnny Science... I'm just a guy that cares about the environment.

Yeah, you're basically right. I saw something on the History channel that described that very process, especially with polystyrene. My eyes were wide open during that episode and seeing how it could apply to the test, which was already in progress. Basically it breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces over time. Like what we see with plastic dashboards of automobiles that start to crack and fall apart.

I wonder if TA went with plastic because of the form of the skirt and manufacturing process. It's not like these can be tumble dried like gelatin paintballs or else the skirts would be all misshapen. I'm sure there are alternatives that could be biodegradable but I'm afraid that the rounds might become astronomically expensive to do so. Perhaps TA is just waiting for the rounds to fully catch on and become economically viable before they make the transition to eco-friendly rounds. That's something that I'd like to believe.
