| Newbie Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Vancouver, BC | SMG-68 bent magazine Well, I guess I figured out why the seller was flipping it so cheap. ** TIPPMANN SMG 68 RARE STOCK VINTAGE OLD PAINTBALL ** - eBay (item 330258849802 end time Aug-04-08 23:01:14 PDT) "Gun fires great" So, this gun has the problem where the magazine becomes deformed from the valve hitting it. What are my options at this point? The stripper clips slide easily through the magazine except at the end where they bind pretty badly, and I assume this will also cause low velocity.

SMGs are pretty robust and the beauty of not having many moving parts is there's not that much to go wrong. So the magazine itself, where it slides into the body, is bending when the valve moves forward? Are you having any issues with the clips indexing, or are they just sticky? I hate to suggest it but have you tried swapping the mainspring out with the one in your 60? There should be no reason for a faster cycle rate other than your hammer hauling *** forward due to a heavy spring. In theory that could be clobbering the valve hard enough to cause the mag deformation you're seeing. EDIT: Is it possible to take a picture of the magazine deformation, or is it dynamic where it's only bending when the valve is open and then it springs back into place?

| Gun Hoarder | Did you check to see if there is a valve stop? I opened up my 68 and there is a thin brass shim in front of the valve to keep it from going further forward. It is hard to see when it is together. (I know I was working on a 68 special and it had one that was thicker and made of steel that was a "C" shape.) I will try and get pics. |

It's impossible to put a clip in without considerable force. It's not a dynamic bending, it's actually deformed, and it also looks like part of the body behind the mag is misshapen as well. PW, I'll take a look. I know the valve stop "C" in 68-Specials.

| Gun Hoarder | Here is a pic of my valve. ![]() Note the ring by the hose. Mine is .045 thick I would think that the bending of the clip is do to this. As for the firing uncontrollable check that there are holes in the mag to let air flow through. Hope this helps. LMK if you need more pics I have the gun out and apart I can see what I can do. |

| Gun Hoarder | Is the bend on the front of the mag (the side with the hole for the barrel)? or is it the back ( the side with the indexer for the clips)? If the barrel is screwed in to tight it could bend the front of it. Or if it was screwed in to tight a lot the barrel could be stopping the feeding. |
