Ball Detent Mod?

So, I've been tinkering with my VM lately and have decided that the "fingers" are the only true flaw to the design. So, are there any ideas on installing a better detent system? I've fooled around with the idea of drilling a couple of holes just in front of the the the feed opening and using a screw-in type of detent... something like what the Angel has on it. Any advice?

There is so much metal, that you could easily do a single-hole detent.

For example, drill a 1/8" hole straight into the breech. Then drill a 1/6" ALMOST into the breech. Stop short of the end. The drop in a 1/6" ball (from a craft store). The idea is that part of the ball will protrude, but not the entire thing.

Then tap the out part of the hole with some sutable threads. Drop in the ball, a small spring, and a screw to hold it all in.

THEN the bolt face might need a slight bevel made into the face, depending on the shape, to prevent it from clipping the ball detent.

I've thought about doing that for... oh... 15 years. I hated the VM detent. No need for the fancy cocker/angel style since the VM has enough meat to hold its own threads.

I never did. Instead, I drilled holes so that I could move the feed block to the vertical position. A completely pointless mod, but that was the trend in the late 90s.

However, I did make up a quick diagram of my idea:

This style of detent has been around since the beginning of paintball, and usually requires a fair amount of work, with a number of holes. My Z for example, has 4 holes drilled into the gun to hold the detent.

But the VM has so much meat, I imagine that it could all be done in a single hole? Of course, I could also be totally wrong, and this might cause permentant, unfixable damage.... Best have this idea "vetted" in the airsmith section.
