question about cocker serial numbers

i am not very educated when it comes to serial numbers on autocockers. i would assume, having read other posts, that age can be somewhat determined by the serial number. is this an accurate statement? if so, which serial numbers correspond to which year?

"Grendels Gear is down for a while
- for used pumps and stuff check www.mcarterbrown.com - good folks"

Thanks, dude. I kept getting the notorious "404: Not Found" error in IE7, so I figured the site was down. Happily, it only appears to be temporary!
