Nel-Spot vs Nel-Spot 007

I'm confused as to the difference.

According to VintageRex the Nel-Spot came out in '82, the Nel-Spot 007 in '84. One difference being the 007 had a removable barrel sleeve.

I have an old Nel-Spot (007?), it has no removable barrel sleeve, and one grip panel has an emblem that looks like a little shooting man shaped from the letters N and S, or N and P, hard to tell, it's worn down a lot.

Do I have a Nel-Spot or Nel-Spot 007?

It's not a clear line though. There are quite a few of the "transition ones"

Mine is stamped Nelspot 007 but doesn't have the ball stop in the top tube or the barrel sleeve.

As the Shootist said, safe bet (not that anyone is going to call you on it anyway) is No Sleeve=Nelspot

What I imagine happened is they changed the name that they were using and stamping into them and then just used up the bodies they had in stock so they did go to waste.

The Nelspot was designed for marking trees, cattle etc. It didn't need a ball stop as trees usually aren't running away from you when you point a gun at them, cattle just run-s-l-o-w-l-y-, so you can take your time loading the gun. The 007 had features like the ball stop and the sleeve (for barrel extensions) as they were made for marking people, trees and cattle.

i have several nelspots that are stamped 007 that don't have the barrel sleeve. They all have a small screw for the ball stop.
I also have one with the barrel sleeve and a large binder screw as the ball stop.

You'd be surprised how fast cattle can get going. They don't accelerate well but once they get going...
