We recently purchased a lot of used / replaced water meters from a town 1.5hs away.
We removed the gauges, bolts and other crap and turned in 6000 lbs of brass at $1.90ish /lb. Paid $2k for the lot.

It was a bit of work and we had the trucks/trailers to pick up the scrap. Not something that many people are equipped to do or would bother but was worth it for us.

Many times scrap metal barely pays for the gas to take it to the recycler. The prices have dropped in the last year.

I just can't imagine there's enough aluminum to make it worth it.

Here is a random cutaway of a tank I found online.

That actually looks like a fair bit of metal. Not worth it to me, but i could see the value in it.

I would imagine the regulators would be worth more than the tanks' scrap metal value.
