I got an Egg 2 during my first year of playing, and loved it. It lasted for quite a while too. It only broke when I accidentally threw it onto a tile floor, and even then it was only a small crack that took a few more years to develop into real damage.

While it's true that eggs were notoriously brittle, in all fairness so was everything else. I can't understand why everyone was making hoppers out of such crappy polycarbonate.

The only thing I could think of to make them stronger would be to 3d print new shells.

I've got one. I really like it too. My main purpose of with this thread was to maybe figure out a way to make the egg 3 that I already have more sustainable(?). I guess for now the thing to do is to put it away until I can figure something out.

The problem with the Egg4 is that the feed tension cant be adjusted like the 3. And the 4 puts some SERIOUS force on the balls, enough to break fragile paint as it feeds.

This literally looks like an early mockup for the JT Evlution. When they were making the JT (Eggy5), they took the lower end, internals and all, from the Eggy4, and swapped the top of it with what appeared to be a Halo shell. The lids on them are awesome actually, open nicely and close firmly. They feed good, but as opposed to the Eggy4, the bottom of the shell isn't tapered towards the raceway, so you have to shake it a bit to get all the balls to the raceway once you get low on paint. Aside from that, theyre very reliable, and have nice soft shells making them nice and durable.

Layout on egg 4 aint the same you can't chop the neck so super low.

But the shells dont break so easy

For modernized the evlution like the dude above mentioned is probably the best pick.

Do they operate exactly the same as an evo 3?

Yeah, I gotta go with Trbo- pretty much the only way to keep an Eggolution from cracking is to leave it in the original packaging, in a climate-controlled room, and out of direct sunlight.

Then go play with a pre-BE Revvy. I've got some that are literally over 20 years old and still work great.

Yeah, the Egg's a cool design, but not so cool it's worth the hassle of constant repairs, regluing and dealing with the hassle of broken lids.

Doc.

This. I mean, how many Halo hoppers have people broken? Too many to count, but they didn't get much of a bad rap 'cause the V35s were the fastest hoppers out there at one point.

I owned my Egg 2 for over 12 years. I just recently sold it. Not a single broken thing on it. No, I'm not kidding. Original springs & hinges, battery door, feedneck, everything. The only things I did was put a piece of duct tape on the batt door (insurance) and use a neoprene hopper cover. And I used it every weekend when I played in our local league and for every practice and for various scenario games and local recball games. Thing worked like a boss.

EDIT: OK, so I remember snapping the speed adj. knob off and replacing the board. But that's it and it was completely my fault.
