Cocking Rod Shims

Making cocking rod shims I figure $5 per is fair.

Strangely enough the shim can work for the Rainman lower guide rod.

1.25" lengths available - 0

1" lengths available - 0

1" on left 1 1/4" on right

I don't want to tip over your sales thread, but it's not posted in the buy and sell section, so I figured I could share this info without stepping on your toes.

I found out that empty shell casings from caliber .22 works great as cocking rod shim. Just sand down the bottom end and deburr the edges. It's a more or less slip fit in the cocking rod groove in the frame.
It may not be as smooth fit as the ones you make, but for me it was close enough to make the pump stroke smoother.

Eh, it's all good. Not going to try to make a business out of making shims for the phantom. Someone suggested that somebody should make these and sell them for people who don't have access to the materials or means to make them so here I am.

you need a mod to approve any buy/sell dealer action on mcb, other than in the regular b/s/t.

.22 shells sanded down to remove the bottom cap.

Picture take in a mirror to be able to see two sides at once.

I put two in there, but you only need one for the desired effect.

I bought some of that tube that was posted up and used a pipe cutting/flaring kit.

I then took an old cocker pump arm and slid it into the brass tube to hold the shape while cutting and to keep it from smooshing in my vice. I'll take pics this weekend if I get around to doing the other 10 or so.

On a side note I'll probably start cutting these at 1" lengths rather than the specified 1 1/4" lengths. The grove for the cocking rod is big enough for the shim to fit into place but not so much to move around so I don't believe the extra 1/4" is needed for a flare. If you want the extra 1/4" let me know.

Personally, what I've done with mine is sleeved the entire cocking rod from the 90 bend to where it screws into the pump handle, replacing the locking nut. It takes a little fiddling to get it just right, but it seems to work a little better.
Good luck with it
