A5/Vortex H&K G3A3

Many years ago I did a (rather sad) build where I grafted surplus H&K G3 parts onto my A5, mostly for fun. Ever since FSRs came out I’ve wanted to redo the build for magfed, but never found the time. I’ve also done a few Ion in airsoft shell builds before, but I was never happy with the feel of them. This build is rock solid.

I always use my A5 at Fulda and the final straw was last year when I had to find someone with FSRs to clear a bunker for me. I know the A5 isn’t the best platform in the world, but the way we play I just want to hit a bunker slot through the brush at ~30-40 yards.

I gave in and got an MCS kit now that they’re at least so-so quality so I didn’t have to deal with the parts that would be more time consuming to fabricate and shape. I haven’t had access to a shop in years, so everything was done with epoxy, a drill, and a Dremel. It’s not super clean and there are a few things I would do differently, but I’m happy with it (especially considering it will get abused). I love that I can use a surplus G3 sling for it.

Pictures start with the finished product then go from the beginning. Sorry if the photo quality sucks, all I had on me was my phone and I did most of the work at night while the baby was asleep.

The scope is a UTG crossbow scope with the back shimmed up. 3rd cross is dead on at ~40 yards.

Finished

My old build that was the inspiration for this one (fake mag hides the connection to the air line going along the right side)

Awesome work! Epoxy, ducktape, or machineshop, doesn't matter if it feels solid
G3 is one of my favorite looking battle rifles so this is inspirational and gives hope to my very poor looking A5

Thanks! I've always really liked the G3 as well. I was surprised how close in size the surplus parts were to the A5. It makes me think MP5 parts would be even closer.

Now that I've actually got all of the parts in hand, I think I could have just used a regular A5 body instead of the Vortex body with a little bit more work.
