Dumb solenoid question

Okay, I rebuild the 'noid in my Gen-E matrix and foolishly did so after a few beers. After cleaning and putting it back together everything works great except I feel like there was a tiny spring behind the flat plate on the solenoid that returns the spool inside.

Like I said, it works fine. The gun sometimes stutters but that may be related more to my dwell settings than anything. Just curious if anybody has a spare solenoid they can take the end cap off (one without the actual magnet/actuator) and tell me if there's supposed to be a spool return spring.

i have looked everywhere and have had no luck, and im surprised i cant find an animation of it.. nor can i get a CAD drawing from SMC

i've taken apart dozens of them for cleaning and whatnot, and i don't ever recall seeing a spring, but its been a lot of years since i have last done it..

so... that's the best i can help you, "i cant find anything online, and i don't think there is one"

hope that helps

Really appreciate you checking that. I ran through ZDSPB, the SMC website, and tried some pics. SMC discontinued it and doesn't offer CAD drawings anymore. Guess there never was a spring. The spring is a lie. Maybe I'll just buy another Matrix and tear it down to check.

Anyway, much appreciated for the help!

I've seen a spring in a few I've taken apart, but those were generally Humphrey noids, not SMC... if it's a direct-acting noid, like a MAC, they don't usually have the springs, but if it's the other style (piloted? can't remember) then they often have a spring to help bias the spool in one direction.

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them.”
