Though I wish I had remembered to video tape a few things at the field. I could have posted "Agglets react to Golden Eagle". Poor thing didn't believe me when I told him that yes, the safety was off and he just had to pull harder.

In my previous life (about ten years ago) I was a middle school science teacher.
I had a lot of free reign with my curriculum and the fifth graders I taught had a year-long unit on light, sound, and basic physics, so I took the opportunity to bring in a lot of "ancient" tech for them to play with. I was impressed at how quickly they figured out things like record players, 8-tracks, a Polaroid camera, and my old Atarti 5200. Ten years removed from those, well, ten year olds, I can understand how there's an entire generation of kids who have no concept of non-digital media other than books.

Helping my father clean out his garage recently we came across a pair of Polaroid cameras. Now a few of my nieces are big into photography, DSLR's specifically. I wonder if they'd find the old Polaroids to be "retro cool", or "old and lame"?

I feel like those always have a lasting appeal, because you're instantly creating a tangible record. Plus there's always something kind of magical watching the print develop before your eyes.

Even as a child, I had a hard time understanding the appeal of traditional 35mm photography, because it always seemed like an eternity waiting for my father to get prints developed from anything he shot.
I had a pretty good Advantix automatic in high school and college that I took on trips, but I never really got into photography until the advent of digital.
