When your wife goes to the hardware store...

My wife was in town stocking up on food and diapers as we are expected to get a decent snowfall. I asked her to swing by the hardware store. She knows next to nothing about terminology so I told her to find an associate and ask for a "q" bit which can be found in the tap and die section. He sent her home with an 1/8" npt tap. What a moron. /endrant

"Normal" hardware stores have no idea that bits come in anything other than fractional and Metric. You will likely have to either by a buy a drill index from some place like Harbor Freight or an individual bit from someplace like Grainger

I feel like you will be able to clear the snow just as well with a metric bit.

You hit it on the head. Turns out he's worked there 30 years and never heard of letter bits.

I worked in a hardware store six years and would have been puzzled with q bit. However if it was said a size q bit I would know.

Not really relevant but I loved that job.

I went to a Home Depot for blue loctite. I even described what it was and still had to talk to 4 different people before someone knew what I was asking for...
