I used to have one that I carried a handful of tools and small parts in for emergencies while trail riding on my dirtbike. The strap broke and I switch up to a back pack.

I have one and it is a great EDC carry holster with other uses but damn I feel like everyone is laughing at me when I've worn it. It rarely gets used, and I just commented to a coworker earlier this week I wish they were more common in everyday use.

What is EDC? Anyway... fanny packs have acceptance among some cycling subcultures. I recently purchased a smallish one. It holds my phone, wallet and car keys, plus a small snack during mountain bike rides. I got tired of stuffing all that stuff in a frame bag that occasionally was awkwardly placed. The "fanny pack" gets it out of the way and safely stowed near my lower back. As an added bonus, I think it helps obscure my butt crack flashes.

I think they are totally acceptable if you are using it to carry your **** while doing something rad. I would not wear it to the pub (unless I pedaled there from far away).

I carry a backpack almost everywhere. It is a diaper bag, computer bag, legal pads, sunglasses etc... I probably have too much stuff for a fanny pack to be functional.

I used to have a small one I would use for hiking that held water bottles on the sides. I felt like it was acceptable in that situation, but I also wore it once when we went to disney back about 15 years ago and my (now wife) made fun of me for it even then. No one was laughing when they wanted some water later that day, but they did at every other chance they could get.

I have switched over to small backpacks now for any outing that requires extra stuff, especially with two young kids in tow now. Diapers, water bottles, snacks, clothes, DONE! Backpacks are the way to go nowadays
