Fish paste!!!

The first 3 seasons of Spongebob (the ones Stephen Hillenburg worked on) are some of the best bits of TV ever. They were a postmodern, absurdist masterpiece.

One of the best "modern" cartoons.

Is it on Netflix?

I've never seen a single episode of Spongebob (seems like I'm probably missing out on something), but Rocko's Modern Life is one of my favorites. I'm still not sure how they got away with some of the stuff they did. Actually, that's true for a lot of the 90's "kids" cartoons I remember.

Like Maggy said, seasons 1-3 have some real gold in them. Super weird, multi-leveled humor.

If you like Rocko you will like the first 3 or so seasons. They are in line with Rocko, Angry beavers, Invader Zim, and other great 90's cartoons.

One of my all time favorite exchanges...

Plankton:
SpongeBob, don't let that guy sit on you. Assertiveness lesson number one: tell that guy to get off.

SpongeBob SquarePants:
Excuse me. You're sitting on my body, which is also my face.

Plankton:
No, no! Be assertive!

SpongeBob SquarePants:
[sticks his finger on the guy's pocket] Beep-beep.

Plankton:
Not insertive!

I didn't recognize the rappers on the halftime show of Superbowl LIII, but I recognized the Spongebob crew that introduced them!
