Bailout for the Auto Industry?

So all day long the market watchers have been talking about the possible bailout of the Auto Industry so that GM and Chrysler could possibly merge.

I have an idea. Make better products.

They need to do something. Jeep plant here in Toledo is laying off entire second shift. thats 800 more people. The jobless rate is now like 16% in Toledo. Jeep has laid off over 2000 people now.

But union workers should get some compensation. Maybe if Jeep and the rest of the US Auto makers didn't make complete crap they wouldn't be in this problem.

no one wants to fix a peice of crap when you can buy a new peice of crap....

why build cars that last? If they last too long then you wont sell enough to make the production run economically feasible.

Seemed to work fine for decades. The problems really did start when other countries goods were far superior in quality to ours.

Isn't it kind of odd that Toyota dealers earlier this year had stopped taking BACK ORDERS for the Prius because they had every one sold until the end of the model year? When a car salesman won't even take your sale because there's none to sell, it indicates a really great product, I'd say. But GM and Ford and Chrysler have tens of thousands of unsold SUVs that get 12-17 MPG just sitting in lots. Rocket scientists!
