Is it magfed?

I see this question get asked a lot on Facebook and a few other forums, wondering what your guy's take on it is.
I've heard people say that a q loader isn't magfed, but a box mag is. Also apparently spring feed 10 round stick feeds are not magfed, but I've seen them allowed at magfed only games.

I argued for months with a mag game promoter that a qloader is like a Calico rifle or that AK variety...... To no avail

My experience with people who are sticklers about the definition of "Mag-fed" is that they really want things to LOOK Mag-fed/milsim. So q loaders and spring feeds don't fit that bill. But a box mag does fit the Milsim look.

For example, I suggested I use my Etek basically as a single shot (no hopper, jacket pocket full of paint), and was told NO because it is still a "space gun".

It seems they are going for a certain aesthetic or experience.

By that reasoning, would the AT-85 qualify?
It have a mag and a front loader .... A little bit of both

Personally here is how I look at it

Box mag= not mag feed UNLESS you are removing it and replacing the whole box with a new one. The way most players use it though you are dumping pods into it while on the field which makes it just a standard hopper that is mounted below the marker rather than on top

Q loader= mag feed, you are removing a spring feed cartridge and replacing it with a new one

Promoters often want it to be a milsim game but they know if they just say milsim it will be open to little Tommy and his stock a5, limiting it down to mag feed, and however they define mag feed is their way of being able to exclude whoever they want

SG in Oregon does a pump & mag feed portion of the game. It usually works well, the pump guys are limited rof abd the mag guys are limited magazine capacity so the have functions fairly well.

Last I saw they still allow box mag though which I don't agree with but whatever. In a game like that where there are 400 people on the field, a few with box mags doesn't make a big difference

Like some other folks have said I think it depends on the spirit of the magfed group. Some people want to treat magfed as a sort of LARP and for others it is more of a type of play and limiting factor. The discord comes from when you take a limited paint player who has similar equipment trying to mesh with a LARP-type group.

In my experience the magfed guys were cool with me using my springfed Emek, but I know that there are some groups out there that would not let me play with it.

Gotta do some research on the specific magfed organization and that should yield you a good answer.

This is might be an unpopular opinion, and I'm sure I'll catch some flak for it but...

By and large, magfed guys can't hang with experienced paintballers. As such, they do what they can to keep people with more skill and less costume out of their games.

100% agree.....

Evidently mag players count bounces as hits..... Got into a huge argument with a dude this weekend because of that.
