Dye I5 - great mask, costs a fortune, but great mask

I finally got my hands on a Dye I5, and lemme tell ya, this is a pretty great mask.

Pros:

Lens - Same lens as I4, wide angle, quick change, thermal.

Breathable - Better than I4, comparable to Flex 8. Not quite as good as proflex/e-flex

Coverage - WAY better than I4, particularly jawline and ear. Chin is better, too, but still not great.

Foam - Very comfy, easy to replace (similar to Grills), has cutout for eyeglass earpieces, so it can accommodate glasses.

Size - Small package, tight fit, very light. I like a tight fitting mask, other don't, but this is in the "pro" column for me.

Strap - Uses unique ratcheting system to tighten and loosen. Very quick, very secure, no messing with sliding plastic clips.

Integrated camera mount - Yup, comes with an integrated camera mount you attach by replacing one of the Dye gem logos on the side. Allows for very easy camera mounting by providing a screw attachment point and a flat surface for attachment via adhesive. Very cool feature.

Cons:

Price - Stupid expensive at $180 new for the base model, more for various fancy colors.

Chin coverage - As I said above, still a bit short, but better than I4s.

Stiff at first - Lens change is quite difficult out of the box, takes a few swaps for the parts to move a bit easier.

Overall: Great mask - good coverage, lens, breathability, a few unique features that are really nice, but more expensive than it should be, because it's Dye and that's what Dye does. I wouldn't have gotten one if I hadn't found a good local deal on a lightly used pair, which is why I'm only just now getting around to reviewing them. I think there are better values out there - Proflexes, E-flexes, Grills, etc, offer a lot of great features at around half the price, or less, but this really is probably the best mask on the market right now. I really, really like it.

Good review as always. Really liked my i4s apart from the coverage so these look like a winner. My only reservation is the lack of a peak/visor - really wish Dye would develop one for the i5 like Virtue have for the Vio.

They do look excellent, shame on the price. Not sure when/how $160-180 became normalized for a mask. Sometime after the $1500 annual electro releases perhaps. Great review, always enjoy your vids.

I hope they come a bit over time - it's just too much. The PUSH googles interest me as well.

One question, I like to wear my strap higher on my head, is that possible with this? How does the strap sit? Does it move a lot during play? Thanks!

nice review! hopefully some of this stuff will trickle down into the lower range masks. this thing is about $100 more than i generally like to pay for a mask.
