Yes you can still take the $250 deduction for her as long as she is a full time teacher and not teaching in a college. You don't have to itemize to take that deduction. You may have lost the "unreimbursed employee expenses" but to make up for it the standard deduction for a married couple went from $12,700 in 2017 to $24,000 in 2018. I would think that would make up for it.

That's a good point that I should have mentioned. Similar to my earlier comment, the doubling of the standard deduction made it such that I didn't have to itemize my deductions for the first time in recent years.
