Double check your motherboard supports 32GB - it should but laptops are weird sometimes.

You might need a BIOS update if your system is older, otherwise it will be plug'n play.

If you aren't comfortable doing it, have best buy do it for free.

Its the easiest operation on a computer you can do, or have done.

I checked with dell send to page to tell what to get installed on it. Saw somewhere might have to change bio’s for it. So will double check before i install. Might have local place or best buy install but do not get cards by Thursday.

What are you using 32g of ram for? why only a clock speed of 2666mhz?
You will need to enable the "xmp" setting on your motherboard. Actually at that speed, you might not need to.

Lightroom and aurora need miumual of 16gb to run programs. I upgraded to 32gb run faster so can run both editing programs

Not sure if you can support faster on a laptop but if you can edit the memory speed in BIOS then by all means upgrade to a 3000mhz or faster ram. There was some benchmarking done that showed diminishing returns after 3500mhz but up to that it reads and writes much faster.

You're looking at 2 things, cache size, and read/write speed. The 32gb is almost overkill but if it can't read/write from memory fast enough then you can be bottlenecking at your RAM. On the other hand if you don't have a fast enough CPU then data will just back up at the RAM anyway so a faster speed is not necessary.

It's a laptop, it won't overclock memory. You also don't need to.
2666 DDR4 has high bandwidth but is technically slower than some DDR3 1600.

For programs more memory is always best, only benchmarks do you see an actual difference with speeds/timings. Running Lightroom won't care if you have 3500mhz or 2666mhz ram.

DDR4 2666 is stock ram speed, BIOS should recognize it immediately.

I see your point but lightroom and aurora needs minimum 16gb of ram to run it. So their my issue also with way lightroom and other programs keep needing more ram to run over years why went that route. Also down the line if want to play games too. So if do not need change bio’s then just swap out

Went to local and best respected computer store and got them installed for free and now have 32gb ram and still have old memory cards as back up. No issue too
